Lawas is a small district located at the nothern tip of Sarawak State. I left the town in 1976 for my lower secondary education in Miri. Since then I was most of the time away and surving on 'nasi kawah' in boarding school.

Lawas town was then comprises of around ten rows of shophouses. There weren't any Bomba facilities to fight any incidences of fire. Sometimes in the mid 1990s, 20 shop houses turn to rubbles after the late night fire that engulfed a row of shophouses. And now the town has two fire engines to be proud of.

As I was having my breakfast on 28 November 2009 at Pasar Besar, a fire broke out from one of the 'Van Sapu' which was said to carry petrol. Coincidently one of the fire engine was on the way to Kampung Punang for the official ceremony.
