This may sound funny but it happen today. Appraisal season! Your supervisor told you that your KPI slightly dropped as compared to previous year performance. You acknowledged but argued with the fact that the overall decline of your KPI was against the backdrop of other KPIs remained constant. It was dropping from rating 5 in previous financial year to simply 1 this year.

He acknowledged to what you wrote in the appraisal 'Comments Form' that the reason for dropping was due to the 'day light robbery' by one manager who happened to be your supervisor's best friend. Instead of promising to reprimand the culprit, he advised you to forget what had happened and move forward.

You told him that, you can forget but not forgive as the same will continue doing it again for his personal glory. You have no problerm of moving forward but why let his friend, who is your internal competitor, keep on moving backward. Instead of competing with other people, he was encroaching your own turf.

You further told him, you are a firm believer in professionalism. You explained to him that in providing financial services - professional meant, one has to be highly skilled, efficient, competitive, innovative or perhaps keeping abreast with the moving trend.

Winning the business out of your peers pocket is not competition. It is criminally inside-trading as your peers are accessed to all your data. He knew your customers. There is nothing skillful or innovative unless you innovation is meant to shot down your office-mates. Neither it is modern way of doing business. New way of doing business is to go beyond boarders and not digging and making hole at your friend's pocket.

This is what happen when your boss do not understand how to do business and having backward BELIEF SYSTEM.
