Beginning next year, school heads and principals who manage to raise their respective school's performance level, whether in the academic or co-curricular field, will be rewarded by the Education Ministry. Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is also Education Minister, said evaluation would start this year for every achievement made as a measure of a school head or principal's performance. This is a good news for the hardworking teacher but quite a disturbing one for the the teachers who are just like passengers. All this while, the less committed teachers had been recieving the same salary and perks as the highly responsible lots.

How the system work is yet to be made known to the public but it must involved 2 areas of concerned i.e. the KPI (Key Performance Indicators) and the Competancy level. To reduce the office politics and to be less subjective, the KPI must carry more weightage. For instance, the weightage for KPI is 70% whilst competancy allocated with 30%. In this case the office politics and favouritism is only cycling within 30 percentage area. However, the awarding of points or rating at competancy area must jive with the achievement of KPI.

Simple illustration of relationship between KPI and competancy - The GB would be awarded rating 3 for (competancy)'Result Driven', if 50% of the Exam student obtained 5As (KPI), and he would be given 4 for if the 5As reach 70%. Anything above 70% would earned him 5 - Excellent (Dont argue, this is just an example)

One of the objective of the government is to equipt the teachers with high performance culture and not just at mediocre level. Time has passed where teachers came in and out 'simply teaching' until retiring.

Teachers doing extra mile will also be rewarded but teachers failed to achieved Overall Rating of 2 will be counselled and recieved no bonus.

REWARDS can be in many forms but the most popular one is cash incentive. Others include materials such as top notch watches or pen, holiday trip etc.

And we agree there are bound to be resistance by the teachers but what choice do you have?
