KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan on Saturday night called on plastic manufacturers associations to merge and go for global market. He said because of the high costs it was not economical for any  single association to try to venture globally alone.

“In order to compete in the global market, it is advisable that the asso ciations merge and pool their resources,” Dr Chan, who is also Industrial Development Minister, pointed out. He said the associations should think of selling their products overseas, which they may be able to do more effectively through merger.

“You (associations) must not confine sale of your products to the domestic market, but must think globally,” he said at an annual dinner organised by Sarawak branch of Malay sian Plastics Manu facturers Associa tion (MPMA) held at Borneo Con vention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.

Present at the dinner were MPMA president Lim Kok Boon and chairman of MPMA Sarawak branch George Lee.
Dr Chan said there were bigger profits to be made in overseas markets.
The Minister of Moder nisation of Agriculture also encouraged MPMA to invest in Sarawak  Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score).

SCORE, he pointed out, provided plenty of business opportunities, adding that there were many business men from Peninsu lar Malaysia who are participating in SCORE.
“Sarawak is actively developing and energising the industrial sector, there are tremendous potentials for MPMA and its members to explore and venture into.

“Here, I sincerely hope that the association and members to consider the state as a viable in vest ment destination and try to explore the oppor tunities available to the fullest,” Dr Chan added.
