Facebook has proven that it can not only help its users keep in touch, but can also reconnect users with former classmates who were feared long lost. Maimunah, my classmates who resides in KL, recently found their cousin in Brunei, whom she never knew she had an autie married to the sultanate upper-class.
It was interestingly nostalic to see 'old' photos being uploaded and it remininsced me of our young days at school. However, not every one can be contacted as many are still not sure how to juggle with the keyboard. Julai Jigil bougth the laptop with the intention to do some venture but gave-up after 2 months. I persuaded Luguh Daes to start browsing the internet, only to find him less interested. He gave a lot of excuses with his thick local accent.
Maimunah, an educated housewife signed up on the Web site and began her quest after getting encouragement from her daughter. She looked for any Facebook members whose last name were 'Zen' and she got in touch with her very close former classmates Nadzirah Zen, who turned out to be in US.
I posted my search 'Mapang' and came across 'Michelle Mapang' who happened to be his daughter attending the British School of Muscat. From Michelle's site we found out that Cornelius Mapang Kamahau and his family lived in Oman.
Not all searches were succesful, I made search for Alau Wing and found out unrelated site called "But Women Never Wing". I made another search for Erang Ngang and the pop-up was simply blue.
To some digital life is simply alien. We started schooling when the terms computer and tv were not even mentioned yet. The terms only started to emerged at a time when most of us were already reaching 30s. To catch up with the digitalization at the age of 50 is not something imposible but become a laughing matter among our children
